Trademark protection in Qatar is granted on registration, not on use, so early filing matters. Applications are filed with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry under the Nice classification, and each class requires its own filing.
After examination, the mark is published and a statutory opposition period runs. Registration lasts ten years and is renewable.
Enforcement options include administrative complaints, customs recordal to intercept counterfeit goods at the border, civil claims for damages, and criminal complaints in cases of deliberate counterfeiting.
